“It truly still exists: Upon arriving at Santa Lucia, I am taken aback by the throngs of people and begin my search for the ‘city highway’ along the Grand Canal. As I gaze up at the blue sky and the warm red hues of the buildings, I reflect on the entrance after what felt like 90 minutes in the dense crowd. After navigating two right turns, one left, and crossing a bridge, I finally arrive at the perfect painting spot in Venice, completely serene in the morning sunlight. Inspired by the esteemed Emil Waldmann, I take a moment for quiet reflection, carefully observe my surroundings, and create a small loose sketch while formulating a color plan in my mind, drawing on decades of experience. With my size 30 watercolor brush in hand, I make my mark on the large white sheet, and in a single stroke, I capture the essence of the scene, which is now proudly displayed at the MKG.”
