Ruins have always fascinated me. Inspired by travels to the Mediterranean – to Italy, Spain, Greece, as well as Turkey, Tunisia, and Egypt – I have intensely explored the architecture of past eras. These experiences influence my artistic expression, which I convey through the representation of architectural elements on canvas.
My painting „Secular Ruins“ illustrates this exploration. It features a nearly labyrinthine arrangement of arcades, Roman columns, and recurring staircases that not only divide the space but also symbolize the transition between different levels, both physically and metaphorically. The numerous columns, stretching to the upper edge of the painting, dominate the composition and create a sublime, timeless atmosphere. A warm color palette, interspersed with soft blues and golden accents, enhances this effect and allows the painting to glow with an almost dreamlike radiance. I invite you to lose yourself in this world.
