Susanne Plischke

Susanne Plischke’s stylistic roots lie in representational painting. For many years, she worked realistically, even photo-realistically, staging her subjects up close and greatly enlarged.
However, a significant event in 2023 led to a new artistic direction. Due to a life-threatening illness, S.P. lost a large part of her eyesight. After several months of forced rest, she fought her way back to life, and painting played a crucial role in her recovery, improving her vision.
During this period of regeneration, S.P. developed a completely new painting style, which still maintains a connection to the representational, but in a reduced and very free manner. The subject now serves as the starting point rather than the endpoint of her work. Forms are dissolved, and the play of colors takes center stage. The memory of the subject remains.
S.P. herself refers to this new direction as “Reduced Realism.“
