Dear companions and friends of the Münchener Künstlergenossenschaft,
After my first year as president, I look back on many first encounters with people who were already familiar with MKG and many who heard the name for the first time. This often made me wonder what it truly means today to carry a royal privilege in our name – for us as a cooperative and for us as artists.
First of all, it means that our artists’ association is obviously quite old. Immediately after this realization, the question arises whether the art we showcase is therefore also outdated. But don’t worry, this year we can counter that concern with a selection of artworks that are very much convinced of the opposite.
The artworks on display all belong to the category of representational art, very much in the tradition of our artist colleagues from past days. Naturally, the impressions of everyday life also flow into our paintings and sculptures today – just in a more modern way. Because, just like in the past, people are at the center of art – the people who create art and the people who enjoy it. This has not changed in the last 150 years, and it will continue to be our wish and goal in the future – to bring these people together. And of course, to inspire even more people with art, especially younger generations. That’s why you are holding a catalog today that already shows on the outside that the MKG is embracing change and deliberately taking new paths.
We hope that you will continue to accompany us on this path and that we will be able to inspire you again and again in the future with the art of the modern “Royal” collection.
Enjoy your time at our 2025 annual exhibition.
Warm regards, yours sincerely,
Gudrun Kohout
